introduction
now after we completed all 5 aspects of inventory mapping :
its; time to talk about protection group
what is Protection group
Site Recovery Manager Protection group can be created to group virtual machines for protection.
As you know replication could be done either : SRA [storage replication adapter ] or VR [vSphere replication ]
SRM protection group will be different for array-based replicated virtual machines and vSphere replication replicated virtual machines.
The point here : You cannot create protection groups by grouping both types of replication. In simple terms, A protection group is a group of virtual machines that fail over together at the recovery site during a test or a actual recovery using VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager.
In Real Production environment, you can create SRM protection group based on Cluster or application type or array based replication groups based on the DataStores groups.
An array-based protection group can contain one or more DataStores groups.
How to Creating SRM Protection Group
To configure the protection group :
Login to your Protected site vCenter server VCSA-prod-155 using vSphere web client.

Click on SRM plugin -> Select Protected site vCenter
Conclusion
just to briefly list the step have been done
- install ESXI on Production and DR site
- install vcenter on Production and DR site
- install SRM on Production and DR site
- install VRA [vSphere Replication ] on Production and DR site
- create inventory mapping with 5 aspects [network , resources , folder , placeholder , and storage policy ]
- create recovery plan
- create protection group
next article we will protect VM101 and synchronize it from Production site to DR site
